Are you doing one?

I am SO excited- mine is tomorrow and I am ready with pent up energy!  For the last week I have been doing a lot of talking and supporting of others about setting goals and creating the year you want, therefore the life you want- and now it is time for me to do my own goal setting.

I have been writing down ideas and playing with some things since November, so now I will solidify them. There is no wrong time to do goals for the year ahead. You might even wade into the new year a bit and set goals in February- all up to you.  I encourage you to write down goals because it is proven that by writing something down you have a far better chance of something happening. By beginning to work on a goal, you go further than you would have if you didn’t start on it. Just don’t settle for the same old thing- 2020 is a perfect time to revamp and go for things you’ve put off.

So, taking a retreat- it could be a half day, a whole day, an evening, a two day with overnight, you could go somewhere for a weekend, like Kripalu, one of my favorites, or the beach- or whatever setting inspires you. I don’t ski anymore, but I love to take a retreat to a great ski lodge with everyone coming and going skiing around me (well not literally, they walk inside)- the environment inspires me to think big. So decide where you would like to be and what works for you time wise and financially at this point and block the time off!  I love three hours in our local cafe where people are busy working on all kinds of things and the hum of that is in the air- and I also like being tucked away in a quiet room.

Keep your retreat simple- you can expand the amount of time you spend on each part to fit the time you are taking. You get to decide the agenda. Here are some ideas that I will be using this year.

-This year I am doing a top 20 things I want to do in 2020. I am looking forward to seeing what I write down!

-Write a few goals in each area of your life. These are the categories I use, but you can make up your own:

Family, Social, Community, Financial, Business/Career, Mental/Intellectual, Health, Spiritual

-Take out a full year calendar and map out you plan, including blocking off all of the days off you will take in 2020.

-Allow yourself to dream.  Write some stretch goals that you have no idea how they could happen, or your belief is wavering on. Write them anyway. All you need to know is the first step to take to get it moving. Write it down. Once you take that first step, the next will appear.  But don’t get hung up on that now, we are just goal setting!

-Decide on some challenges you will take- making a reading challenge, or something around health or your business. Put yourself out of your comfort zone- that is where all of the magic happens with personal growth.

-Because it is the first few days of the 2020’s it is the perfect time to think about where you would like to be in 5 years and 10 years.  Use your imagination and write it out- DREAM- you don’t need to know how, just paint that vision and you can use the areas of life again as your guide.

-Get a big notebook that you love- I like a larger size- to write your goals in and then continue to use it all year as you review your goals and write monthly goals that lead you in the direction of your yearly goals.  Oh, and good pens. And maybe stickers and markers, too, if you like to get fancy!

-For me, a great retreat ALWAYS includes great food to fuel the day and to enjoy as part of the process.

Tell me about what you love to do with your new year goal setting. What works for you? What is your favorite place to retreat?

What’s your biggest 2020 goal?  Whatever it is get some accountability!  Whether from a great coach (highly recommended!) or a trusted friend, it is a big boost to goal achievement.

And if one of your goals is to spend more time around goal getting people in inspiring and motivating settings, make sure to sign up for the my 2020 Goal Setting and Planning Retreat on February 1st and 2nd at the Hotel Vermont,  or my Successful Mindset Mastermind starting next week!  I hope to connect with you soon!
