I have been using the 8 areas of life as a foundation for my private coaching business since I started it is in 2008. It has been the best way for my clients to gain great clarity about where they are in their lives and to begin to pinpoint where they want to go. To begin to identify the directions that make them feel happy and fulfilled.

In my newsletter this week I included an abbreviated version of the one my clients fill out which included many questions to answer. Working with these areas has been profound for my clients and for myself. I set my yearly and monthly goals using this framework and it really keeps me on track.

Over the next eight weeks I am going to share more about each one of the eight areas.

The areas are:

Social

Mental/Intellectual

Health

Spiritual

Business/Career

Family

Community

Financial

I hope you will take the opportunity to follow along to see what you might discover about where you are at in your life and what is important to you now.

Take a notebook and think about each area. Where are you at on a scale from 1-10? What would make it a 10? In other words what would have to be happening in that area of your life in order for you to call it a 10? Write all of this out.

Next, make a list of all of the possible steps you can begin to take to move in the direction on the 10. While your goal may be to reach the 10, the real win is consistently taking actions that lead you toward the 10. Pick the first, most important step off from your list and put it into your schedule.

Follow through on it when it comes up in your schedule and then decide on the next, best step to take and when.

It is a good idea to check on how you are doing each week. I like Sundays. Every quarter you may look at it more deeply and even decide to change direction. Always take stock of what you have learned in the past week, quarter and this is truly valuable.

Keep the spirit of experimentation. This is your life and happiness you are creating. There is so much that is within your control. Don’t forget that! Many things are out of our control, that is true, however, I rarely see a person who is tapping into all they can to boost and amplify their own happiness.

Do some writing about what realizations you are having about each area as we go along. Create your foundation today! See you next week!
