As you move forward, emerging into the second half of 2025, I hope you feel some excitement and freedom to reinvent, reset, recreate…..

Very much unlike the feeling of goal setting for a new year, the energy of mid year invites a whole different approach. The approach is based in mindset and how we are thinking at this time of year. It may also be very practical- we have information about this year now that we did not have in January.

Although I feel that every question you ask yourself in reflecting on the first half of the year is important, the one that stands out most is this, for me: What has gone well so far this year?

If you haven’t answered that one yet, go ahead and do it right now- write it all down. Give yourself credit! We will come back to this in a moment.

One of the 41 questions I extracted and am busy asking myself from the Reinvention Summit is “am I making time for emergence?”

I love questions like this because we are each different and will place a different meaning on it- there is no right answer. What does it mean to you?

The dictionary says that emergence is (among other things) the process of coming into view, coming into being or of becoming important or prominent. This clarity we can gain at mid year fits right in with this word. What is coming forward as most important? What do you think is the prominent thing to pay the most attention to? Why?

Are you making space for emergence? For me, I think this means first making space for reflection and realization. Emergence can not happen when we are packing our schedules end to end and not reserving thinking time for ourselves. The may be a great habit to begin, or double down on in the second half of the year. When am I scheduling thinking time or a Think Day?

Back to that list of what has gone well so far this year. This would be a perfect topic to address in your thinking time or Think Day. My question for you:

Regarding all that has gone well and is going well, what will you double down on?

There is a tendency to coast on things that are going well, but remember- they need attention to keep going and if you double down on these things you will likely see that there is another level to reach. Double down on the things, or even one thing that is working. Expand it. What would that look like?

We don’t always need new answers, sometimes we just need to look at what is going well already and decide to double down, give it more attention, expand it.

And that is called emergence. This takes time and attention, but it can be so enlightening and joyful and impactful to you in your whole life.

You get to decide what to do with this information- take out your goal book or journal and start to sketch out some ideas. Take out your schedule and get some thinking time in there. Consistently. Take action today- emergence is waiting to happen.
