When was the last time you went back to basics in any area of your life?
Health, business, leadership, spiritual, mental/intellectual, social, family, financial, community- all of these areas can become cluttered with too many items, commitments, to-do’s. It can get complicated, which many times will cause us to feel that feeling of being stuck- we may not be stuck, there just may be too many things to get a handle on. These are times to go back to basics.
Take your work or business life, for example. You may have been trying a lot of different things to build business and they aren’t working as well as you would like. Try going back to basics– what used to work that you got away from? What do beginners do?
Adopting the beginners mindset is always so powerful. We tend to think we have moved past all that beginner stuff, but going back to beginner actions with experience is so much fun, energizing and will bring you results. Each time you return to basics, you know more and have better skills to apply. Beginning again is next level!
Going back to basics just feels good. How do I know I am going back to basics? Ask yourself these questions:
-What would a beginner be doing if they were just getting started?
-What are the most essential things in this (any) area?
-What is necessary?
-What is getting in my way?
Especially now, in this season where if you, like me, are clearing and cleaning our things, clutter, stuff- it makes sense to pair back activities to what is most important right now.
-What are the most important things to focus on right now- between now and December 31?
-What actions could I take that would provide the most positive energy and the best results? Pick one or two to double down on.
Homework:
Write down each area of life (use mine above or use/add your own):
-What is most important right now in this area?
-What are the three (at the most) important actions I want to be taking?
-Which areas are the most important to focus on? Which areas can be set aside, but not forgotten, for now? (Remembering to just keep an eye on all areas, at least once a week to stay on track.)
This is a great time to be honest with yourself about what is not working or ideal in your business or your life.
-What would it look like if it was working/idea?
-How am I complicating things and how might I stop?
-What am I willing to do, trust, let go of, delegate, resume…….?
I hope that you will take some time for thinking and answering these questions. Give yourself a fresh start and clean slate to begin again, but remembering that now you are at a whole new level than you were before. Back to basics. It just might be life changing!
