Here it is! One of my favorite times of the year! Summer reading season!

I tend to go heavy on fiction in the Summer, yet I am still inclined to continue some inner learning. I am excited share what I have decided to read during Summer 2021!

I’ll start with fiction- I have so many great books waiting in the wings, it was a real challenge to whittle down!

What made the cut for now:

Like Water for Chocolate, by Laura Esquivel– I read this one over 30 years ago! This is my original copy. I was reminded of this book as I am revisiting the daily book Simple Abundance by Sarah Ban Breathnach,  all year long. In the July section, this is a book she recommends, as well as other food themed fiction books and cookbooks. I am excited to re-read this as I was a WAY different person in a WAY different time of my life at that point!

Arsenic and Adobo, by Mia Manansala– To follow along with the food themed suggestion, I have had this mystery book sitting on my shelf- definitely two things a love- good food and a good mystery!

Anything Is Possible, by Elizabeth Strout– So far this year I have read through her Olive Kitteridge series and I love her story telling. I am excited to discover the characters awaiting in this selection!

Hour of the Witch, by Chris Bohjalian– Here in Vermont, we love our Chris Bohjalian! He’s a Vermonter who loves the 802 and writes with such detail, he’s truly one of my favorites. I have a copy of every book he’s written but one, all signed. I love historical fiction done well, and this one is excellent because of the years of research Chris puts into his novels. I am about half way through and want to take the day off so I won’t have to stop reading!

The Maidens, by Alex Michaelides- I read the Silent Patient and it was so hard to put down- something I really love in a fiction book- another mystery! I guess I like mysteries in the summer!

The Midnight Library, by Matt Haig- SO many of my friends have read this, loved it and professed that I will too, here it is in the stack!

To keep my inner development and beauty going- something I have really sunk into in a deep way for a while now,  I am reading a few fiction books, too:

The Gifts of Imperfection by Brene Brown– along with her podcast following the book this summer, it’s helping me get my head screwed on straighter!

The Body Keeps the Score by Bessel van der Kolk- some big aha’s and bringing so much more understanding which is important in my own life and in my work.

Gift From The Sea by Anne Morrow Lindbergh (another re-read to notice the beauty I appreciate at this time in my life)

I Hope I Screw This Up by Kyle Cease– chiseling away at fear!

Living With Joy by Sanaya Roman– reading and re-reading this one. It is so much good.

Consolations by David Whyte– on the nightstand to read page before bed. (I am into letting my subconscious dwell on something amazing while I sleep!)

There may be more books that come and go this Summer, I will be sure to share! Please share with me about your summer reading stack and think about entering my annual Summer Reading Challenge! You can sign up for my newsletter at KimberlyDuBrul.com and you will receive all of the details!

Happy reading! Let it ignite, and ignite you!
