August can be a busy month for a lot of us, and for many of us it can also be a time to slow down.

A simple premise I like to remember is that peace and solitude are always available to use, we just have to pause to gain access. This is not reserved for special people, we all have the ability.

As we dive into my August theme- SIMPLICITY- I want to have you remind yourself of that. Whether your month is busy or spacious, finding simplicity in solitude is available to you.

Albert Camus said “…”steal” some time and give it freely and exclusively to your own self. Opt for privacy and solitude. That doesn’t make you antisocial or cause you to reject the outside world. But you need to breathe. And you need to be.”

That last part especially, need to be- that is what this month is about for me. In his book, Letting Go, Dr. David Hawkins reminds us that “a realm of peace is always waiting for us.” What I am letting go of this month is working on the figuring out of anything that is not happening in the given moment. I am not reaching into the future, I am staying present. Just for the month, I give myself permission to not have an answer for everything.

By cultivating pausing and presence, I now have created the space for solitude and peace to be mine. It may be for 5 minutes or a whole day- you, me- we get to decide for ourselves what we are wanting.

At first, you may have to schedule this time so that you bring intention in, but after a while you will start to notice the times you can grab some time to simply breathe and be. No expectations, no judgement, just being.

I will leave with this for this week- simplicity and solitude are not a luxury, but a necessity. Having space to just be is so healthy, that is why meditation and yoga are so popular. We all need a balance of space and meaningful work to live our best lives. Finding solitude helps you to refill your stores so that you can be at your best.
